"Highly Laser Damage Resistant UV Crystals” Wins The Gold Medal at The CIOE China Optoelectronics Expo Award

On September 6, 2023, the 24th China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE) opened in Shenzhen. The final evaluation of the Optoelectronics Expo Award held in the same period was also grandly announced at the opening welcome party and the award ceremony of "China Optoelectronics Expo Award".

After a number of selection processes, including expert evaluation and on-site roadshow, CASTECH's "Highly Laser Damage Resistant Ultraviolet Crystals" project stood out among many other projects and won the Gold Award.

 

        

High-power, high-frequency ultraviolet laser, due to their advantages of short wavelength and high peak power, can avoid the formation of thermally induced ablative molten materials during laser processing, truly achieving laser "cold processing". There is a huge market demand for manufacturing ultraviolet lasers in the domestic and foreign industrial processing fields, presenting a "blowout" development trend, especially high-end solid ultraviolet lasers.One of the core materials of solid-state ultraviolet lasers is the frequency doubling crystal used for frequency conversion. At present, most of the frequency doubling crystals used in solid-state ultraviolet lasers on the market are LBO crystals and BBO crystals. The control of their growth defects and the quality of subsequent processing and coating will affect the performance of the entire laser. Therefore, low defect crystal growth and high-quality surface coating are the key focus of this project.

The "High Laser Damage Resistant UV Crystals" project of CASTECH has completed the design of temperature field and flux selection of large-size and high-quality LBO crystals and BBO crystals, the research on raw material control methods for low-absorption LBO crystals, and the theoretical and experimental research on the damage mechanism of the laser to the film layer as well as the surface coating materials and the plating process. We have completed the research on the damage mechanism of laser to the film layer, the theory and experiment of surface coating material and plating process, and the plating of high damage threshold film layer on the crystal surface, and all the indexes have reached the expected goal. At the same time, we have established a production line of large-diameter, high-quality LBO crystals and BBO crystals, and formed a series of crystal devices.

This project provides advanced performance crystal components for China's high-performance UV lasers in the field of high-end precision manufacturing, and contributes to the improvement of China's overall technical level in the industrialization of UV lasers
