Characteristics and Applications of High-Repetition-Rate Electro-Optic Modulators

An electro-optic modulator is an optical modulation device based on the electro-optic effect. When a driving voltage is applied to the electro-optic modulator, the orientation of the optical axis within the internal electro-optic crystal rotates, leading to changes in the crystal's refractive index distribution. Due to the different propagation velocities of the ordinary (o) and extraordinary (e) rays inside the crystal, a phase difference arises between them when they reach the same position. This phase difference is dependent on the voltage applied to the crystal.
